Need to apply for Legal Aid? Head to the Calgary Courthouse.

Starting June 3, 2019, all in-person applications for legal aid coverage will be accepted only at the Calgary Courts Centre (601 5 St SW). Legal Aid Alberta’s (LAA) Calgary office will no longer be accepting in-person applications.

Our office in the courthouse will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on the main floor to take applications for all areas of law where we offer services. As well, reception in the LAA Calgary office will be centralized on the 4th floor, where some services, such as accepting client payments, will remain.

The LAA office will be open for existing clients and by appointment only.

We hope that this change will make the application process more convenient for our clients. Many clients already have to go to the courthouse and this way Legal Aid Alberta is able to serve them there, eliminating the extra time it takes to call in or visit an office to apply. Consolidating reception in Calgary will also improve the client experience, making it easier for clients coming to the office for an appointment to have one reception area.

“As an organization we are always looking at ways to improve how we deliver services to Albertans, said Julia Sproule, Associate Vice-President, Operations. “As we work towards being one unified, innovative and sustainable organization, centralized reception for all clients who receive our services is in alignment our client-centred approach.”

While we do offer in-person applications, we encourage all clients to apply by phone as that is generally easier and more convenient. Our toll free number (1-866-845-3425) will not change and we are available by phone Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

It has been a pleasure serving you at our Calgary office. We look forward to seeing you at the Calgary Courts Centre!
